President Obama took the time Thursday morning at the National Prayer Breakfast to denounce “religious extremism,” and noted the atrocities committed in the name of Islam by groups such as ISIS. But hey, he said, what about the Crusades? And slavery? (RELATED: Salon: Rape Is ‘Intrinsic To Religion’ And God Raped Mary)

“Humanity has been grappling with these questions throughout human history,” Obama said, “And lest we get on our high horse and think that this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.”

Missing from Obama’s denunciation of a millennium-old war was a denunciation of the two men in the audience who helped perpetuate a genocide only two decades ago.
