Growing British resistance to the unelected European Union, open borders, uncontrolled migration and political correctness may all crest June 23 when the UK votes on whether to leave the EU.
A new poll shows a dramatic swing in British public opinion on this issue. 48 percent of Brits now oppose the EU and 44 percent approve — in 2004, 54 percent supported it and 36 percent disapproved.
Arron Banks, a leader of the British Leave.EU movement, was recently in Washington, D.C. to talk with opinion-makers about the significant June 23 vote in Britain. Banks was surprised by the American elite’s unfamiliarity with the EU, and realized he had his work cut out for him explaining the situation.
No doubt, the EU was initially sold to member nations — and the world — as merely a trade deal, he says in this exclusive 15-minute video interview for The Daily Caller News Foundation.
Explaining to Americans the dangers the EU poses to Britain, Banks asks Americans to imagine “having your Supreme Court in Havana, your Congress in Toronto, and an un-elected President. It wouldn’t go down too well, plus an open border for 5 million people.”
Just as Donald Trump’s views on America’s open borders, unassimilated migrants and stretched public services resonates with voters, Banks claims these same issues, along with rising concerns over public safety, are now driving the growing rebellion in Britain.
Today, he says, the EU makes 60 percent of the laws Brits have to abide. There is talk of an army, a separate flag and things many Europeans never fathomed, as Brussels stealthily steals national sovereignty.
Banks explains the media and politically correct politicians “air-brush out” any real discussion of rape incidents by migrants, such as what happened in Cologne, Germany on New Year’s Eve and other growing instances of rape. Neither media, nor politicians discuss such incidents as they fear being called “racist” or intolerant of the refugees. All the while, hospitals, schools and other services are stretched to capacity.
President Barack Obama visited London in April and made a veiled threat to British voters that the country remain a member of the EU.
“After [Obama] came over we actually improved 2 points in the polls. Anytime he’d like to come over, he’s very welcome. I don’t think anyone likes being told what to do in their own backyard. That would be true if a British Prime Minister came over here and said you have to do something with Mexico. I don’t think it would go down very well,” Banks said.
Obama’s legacy, Banks predicts, is going to be “one of weakness for American interests.”
