Police are looking for a man who broke into a woman’s house Friday in Northwest, D.C., and sexually assaulted her.

According to the woman in the house, which is located in the upscale Kalorama neighborhood, she was blindfolded, bound and then sexually abused by a man who somehow got into her house.

The woman said she has no idea how he managed to gain access, NBC Washington reports.

She was alone during the assault. No description has yet been released of the man, aside from his gender. Police also say that during the course of the home invasion and sexual assault, the man stole items from the property.

“It was only when I spoke to the police officers that I realized something more serious had happened,” Ann Kaplan, who lives beside the house where the incident took place, told WJLA.

“It was very unsettling, particularly to learn there was a vicious attack. A break-in is one thing and theft and burglary, but that there been a physical attack was unsettling,” Kaplan added.

Kaplan said she’ll take extra measures to secure her home.

Currently, the Metropolitan Police Department is trying to identify the man and are asking the community for assistance. Those with tips about the incident have been asked to contact the police at 202-727-9099.
