A top Planned Parenthood abortionist explains how to properly destroy a fetus accidentally born alive — in more accurate words, a baby — after a botched abortion in undercover footage released Wednesday, saying the “key” is to “pay attention to who is in the room.”
DeShawn Taylor is discussing abortion techniques with the undercover actors posing as researchers interested in obtaining fetal tissue in the video, when the conversation turns to infants born alive. Researchers require intact limbs and organs that are not chemically poisoned, so an abortionist looking to harvest parts has an easier time if the child comes out whole. But at the same time, the human being has to be killed before it comes out of the womb in order to avoid a violation of the federal partial-birth abortion ban.
“It’s not a matter of how I feel about it coming out intact,” Taylor tells the actors. “But I’ve got to worry about my staff and people’s feelings about it coming out looking like a baby — so yeah that becomes an issue.”

“I just don’t even want to send a full fetus for … we have the people who do our paperwork for the fetal death certificates,” she adds, expounding on the pitfalls of a fetus born intact, whether dead or alive. “They email us calling them babies. Baby this, baby that, baby so and so. That’s creepy!”
“Is there any standard procedure for verifying signs of life?” the actor asks Taylor
“Well the thing is, I mean the key is, you need to pay attention to who’s in the room, right?” she replies. “and like you know because the thing is the law states you’re not supposed to do any maneuvers after the fact to try to cause demise. So it’s really tricky … ”
Taylor explains she typically does the dilation and evacuation method, in which the doctor uses forceps to pry the fetus piece-by-piece out of the mother’s dilated cervix. In the process, the child is crushed and dismembered, ensuring it’s “born” dead. Sometimes in later term abortions, however, she uses digoxin as poison to make death a certainty.
Taylor laughingly explains that it’s much easier to rip a dead body out of the womb, as the living require much more force to break apart.
“I have to tell you anecdotally my biceps appreciate when the [digoxin] works,” she laughs. “It does not take longer to complete the procedure but it takes more force. It takes a bit more out of you.”
“I remember when I was a fellow and I was training, and I was like, ‘Oh I have to hit the gym for this!'” she adds, again laughing. “I need to hit the gym.”
The Center for Medical Progress released the video as part of a years-long investigative project into Planned Parenthood’s dealings in fetal parts. Numerous videos have shown Planned Parenthood executives and staff talking frankly about the ins and outs of fetal harvesting, and their release led to a push at both the state and federal levels to defund the abortion giant.
