Todd Starnes, the popular and highly entertaining radio host of “Fox News & Commentary,” describes himself as a “gun-totin,’ Bible-clingin,’ chicken-eatin,’ son of a Baptist” — while also tacking on “deplorable” as a descriptor.

A speaker, author and friend of the regular citizen and patriot, Starnes is thoroughly informed while light-hearted with a southern twist. He was in Washington, D.C., recently for a lecture at the Family Research Council, where he gave this exclusive video interview to The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Starnes has one warning for Trump: the president needs “to be very careful about partnering with establishment Republicans.” The Fox personality brought up “The Godfather” character, Fredo, fearing Speaker Paul Ryan will pull a traitorous “Fredo” on Trump, betray him and separate the president from his enthusiastic voter base.

Starnes said “the Freedom Caucus is not the enemy here” when commenting on the fracturing of Republicans when Ryan tried to repeal and replace Obamacare with a legislative proposal that held only a 17 percent approval rating.

His biggest concern is Trump, like so many Republicans, will walk away from the issues and stances he campaigned on. Deviating from these stances would disappoint his voter base, making many stay home — which could have occurred earlier in April when a Republican won in Kansas’s 4th Congressional district by only 7 points, even though Trump had won that district by 27 percent last fall.

If the Republicans cannot succeed in repealing Obamacare, building the wall, enforcing our border or limiting the administrative state, this Republican Congress could easily be tagged a “do-nothing” Congress, Starnes observes. Democrats are already sensing opportunities to retake the Congress.

Speaking of the Obama team’s scandal involving the misuse of our national intelligence system and the emerging new lies by Obama adviser, Susan Rice, Starnes believe she “ought to be in jail.” But, he ends by asking provocatively “who told Susan Rice to [unmask the Trump transition names]?”

Culturally, Starnes believes there is a concerted effort to marginalize Christianity and patriotism in the public square. With his wide reach on radio, Fox interviews and social media, he is telling many of the stories of personal triumph against this growing conventional wisdom though.

In 2014, Starnes received the National Religious Broadcasters’ Board of Directors Award. He has received numerous other awards for his work to defend and promote religious liberty in his work.
