Carrie Fisher Died With Cocaine, Heroin, And Ecstasy In Her System

Font Size:

Carrie Fisher struggled with drug and alcohol addiction her whole life. It’s sad, if unsurprising, to confirm that it’s what killed her.

Joseph Serna and Richard Winton, LA Times:

A Los Angeles County coroner’s report released on Monday revealed a mixture of drugs that were in actress Carrie Fisher’s system when she went into cardiac arrest on an L.A.-bound flight and later died.

Fisher’s toxicology review found evidence of cocaine, MDMA (better known as ecstasy), alcohol and opiates when she was rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Hospital on Dec. 23…

The test results “suggests there was an exposure to heroin, but that the dose and time of exposure cannot be pinpointed.”

It’s easy to be callous and say she got what she deserved. She should’ve known better. She had a life most of us can only dream of, and she threw it all away. But addiction doesn’t work like that. It doesn’t care how rich you are or how smart you are or what you look like or how many movies you’ve been in. Addiction doesn’t care about anything but itself.

I was sad when Carrie Fisher died, and I’m sad to finally learn why. R.I.P.
