Republican Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby said Sunday he could not vote for GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore in the Alabama special election.
“I’d rather see the Republican win, but I’d rather see a Republican write-in. I couldn’t vote for Roy Moore. I didn’t vote for Roy Moore,” Shelby said on CNN’s “State of the Union,” two days before the election between Moore and the Democratic candidate Doug Jones.
“We call it a tipping point,” Shelby said. “I think, so many accusations, so many cuts, so many drip, drip, drip, when it got to the 14-year-old’s story, that was enough for me. I said I can’t vote for Roy Moore.”

Moore has been accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct, many of whom were underage at the time, including a 14-year-old girl.
GOP leadership and the Republican National Committee (RNC) initially withdrew support for Moore, calling on him to resign. However, as his numbers rebounded in early December, Trump endorsed Moore and the RNC quickly followed suit, resuming their financial support for the embattled campaign.
Moore now has a slight lead over his opponent just before the Alabama special election which will be held Tuesday Dec. 12.
