Brazen bandits dressed up in postal uniforms to steal mail from New York City post offices, the New York Post reported Sunday.

New York postal workers claim that since the summer thieves have dressed up in post office uniforms. The bandits have swiped at least 19 carts of mail including money orders, valuables and checks, according to the report. Carts were stolen from the New York City neighborhoods in Manhattan of Union Square, Murray Hill, and the Upper East Side. The most recent case is a robber donning a police uniform and stealing a cart on 136 E. 36th Street. Video footage caught the thief running up 36th Street on March 15.

“It’s easier to steal a mail cart with a significant amount of mail than sticking a glue trap in a mailbox,” said a law enforcement source. Police are currently investigating two cases of alleged mail theft north and south of 59th Street, according to sources.

So far only one person was arrested for the mail theft incidents.

Similar mail theft related incidents happened in Yonkers, N.Y. The thefts led to mailbox modifications, lohud.com reported.
