Colorado sheriffs responded to a strange call about a vehicle break-in Tuesday — a bear that apparently wanted a snack and locked himself into a car.

“Our deputies responded to a vehicle trespass with an….usual suspect,” the Boulder County Sheriff’s Department wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday. “A bear broke into a car and locked himself in. Car 0. Bear 1.”

Officers were able to get the door open from the outside, something the bear could not do, and let him out without injury. “They were able to open the car door and safely let the bear out without anyone, including the bear, being harmed.”

It’s unclear whether the bear did any damage to the interior of the car, but after one person commented that the car was probably shredded, the sheriff’s office added, “Bears can be very destructive to a vehicle. Hopefully these tips can help others avoid this happening to them.”

“This is a good reminder that wildlife is out and about this time of year looking for food,” the sheriff’s office said. “Trust us, you don’t want to have to deal with a ‘hangry’ bear.”

For those who live near bear-heavy areas, the sheriff’s office provided some tips for preventing the giant scavengers from becoming a nuisance. For instance, don’t use open bird feeders, store trash in sealed, bear-resistance cans, don’t leave trash overnight at the curb, and don’t leave odorous things like hand lotions, air fresheners, food wrappers or sunscreen in cars.
