Cindy McCain, wife of Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, blasted White House special assistant Kelly Sadler after she allegedly mocked her husband’s illness in an internal meeting Thursday.

Cindy sent out a tweet after the news broke of Sadler’s comments in the White House meeting, who was discussing John’s opposition to the nomination of Gina Haspel as CIA director during a closed-door meeting when she said, “It doesn’t matter, he’s dying anyway.” Cindy reminded Sadler that her husband has seven children and five grandchildren.

Sadler reportedly tried to call his daughter, Meghan McCain, to apologize, which “didn’t go so well,” according to Politico’s Annie Karni. (RELATED: Report: White House Official Tried To Apologize For Mocking ‘Dying’ John McCain)

Meghan is reportedly going to respond to Sadler’s comments on “The View” Friday. (RELATED: Meghan McCain Will Respond To White House Aide On ‘The View’)

Doctors diagnosed John with brain cancer in July. He was hospitalized in late July for surgery to remove a blood clot above his left eye. Subsequent tests revealed a primary brain tumor associated with the blood clot. The senator has since been receiving treatment back home in Arizona, keeping him away from the Senate for several weeks.

The White House issued a statement to The Hill Thursday, which did not deny Sadler’s comments, “We respect Senator McCain’s service to our nation and he and his family are in our prayers during this difficult time.”
