Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein lost his composure Thursday morning during his appearance before the House Judiciary Committee, openly smirking when the ranking Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler of New York mentioned Republicans’ push to have him impeached.

“And the majority is rightly denied, they will do their best to undermine the credibility of the Department of Justice, the credibility of the deputy attorney general and by extension, the credibility of the special counsel,” Nadler said during his opening remarks Thursday. “They will try to hold Mr. Rosenstein in contempt. Some have even threatened him with impeachment. They may argue he must be removed from his oversight role.”

The camera quickly panned to Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray. Rosenstein was caught smiling, trying to regain his composure and then smiling once again as Nadler mentioned GOP calls for his impeachment.

Conservatives, led by House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, drafted eight articles of impeachment against Rosenstein in late April. (RELATED: Wray Talks Clinton Email Probe)

Rosenstein and Wray are taking questions from committee members Thursday regarding the Justice Department’s inspector general report on the Clinton email investigation.
