Washington Post columnist Max Boot compared President Trump’s immigration rhetoric to that of “ethnic cleansers” in a fiery debate with CNN political commentator Paris Dennard on Thursday night.

The disagreement began when Boot argued against the president’s stance on immigration was “[racist] and [xenophobic],” highlighting Trump calling MS-13 gang members “animals.”

Dennard, a Trump supporter, rebuked that claim. He said, “I think that Max has actually just mouthed off a lot of falsehoods in his mischaracterization of President Trump and his positions.”

“It was far from clear that he was referring to MS-13,” Boot responded. “He uses dehumanizing terminology to refer to immigrants. It’s not just ‘animals’, He also says they ‘infest and breed.’ That is the kind of language that ethnic cleansers have used in the past. That is a fact, not a falsehood.”

Boot recently wrote a column titled, “I left the Republican Party. Now I want Democrats to take over.” In it, he continues his anti-Trump rhetoric, stating that the current state of the Republican Party is not the party he wants to be a part of. Boot argued with Dennard’s statement, saying, “You accused me of a falsehood. I want to hear a falsehood. Give me a falsehood. You accused me of falsehoods. Give me a falsehood.”
