Two California Democratic congressional candidates refused to say definitively that they would endorse fellow California Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi for the position of Speaker of the House if they were to retake the House after the midterm elections, at a fundraiser last week.

Katie Hill, a Democratic candidate who is going up against Rep. Steve Knight, and California Democrat Gil Cisneros, who is running to replace retiring Rep. Ed Royce, both tried distancing themselves from Pelosi while walking into a fundraiser for her hosted by Equality California on July 11, according to the Free Beacon.

Hill said she was taking it “one day at a time,” when asked about if she’d support the congresswoman.

These congressional hopefuls are not the Democrats to denounce Pelosi.

Pennsylvania Democrat Conor Lamb won a special election in March but announced he would not support a bid by Pelosi for the Speaker position. He went as far as to say that the Democrats “need new leadership,” taking a shot at the whole party’s leadership.
