Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan and North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows explained why they filed articles of impeachment against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in an interview Wednesday. Their reasons included threats against House intel staffers, withholding documents for over nine months, and ignoring the authority of Congressional oversight.

“Really for nine months, we’ve asked for documents. And that’s all we want, are the documents. What we’ve found is not only have subpoenas been ignored, but information has been hidden. The efforts have been stonewalled. I guess for us, it’s all about transparency so the American people can judge for themselves. So they may be able to ignore Congress, but they can’t ignore the American people,” said Meadows.

Jordan said he, Rep. Meadows, and Florida Rep. Ron Desantis have sent a letter to the president to help Congress “declassify this information” they are seeking on the Russia probe.

“We’ve caught the Department of Justice hiding information, redacting information that they should not have redacted. We know that Rod Rosenstein threatened House Committee Intel staffers, threatened them, chilling impact, when they were trying to do their job, our job of getting, doing the Constitutional oversight we’re supposed to do,” Jordan added.

Jordan emphasized that Rosenstein signed on the third renewal of the salacious Trump dossier to be used in conjunction with the Russia probe.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham later emphasized in the interview that “it’s been 122 years since a member of the executive branch has been impeached. It’s a long time.”

WATCH:

“We care about doing the right thing. It might have been 120 years since someone’s been impeached, but when was the last time you ever saw the FBI take a disproven document — with no credibility, no validity, no corroboration — take it to a secret court, not tell the court who paid for it, not tell the court that the guy who wrote had been leaking information to the press. When have you ever — and not just once, four stinking times,” Jordan said, “The last one, Rod Rosenstein signed. So, if that’s not enough to force the action as Gregg talked about, contempt of impeachment, you tell me what is. Tell me what is.”

“Look, we have been this patient — we started this a year ago in July asking for documents. We sending letters last November,” Jordan continued. (RELATED: GOP Lawmakers Introduced Articles Of Impeachment Against Rod Rosenstein)

Jordan said they had requested all the documents from the Deparment of Justice relating to the Russia probe, but “they have a subpoena with nine different things. They are not in compliance with three elements of the subpoena issued by Bob Goodlatte.”

Meadows stated, “Here’s the thing: why do we have to dig so deep to find out information that should come free-flowing, if we are really interested in justice?”
