Democratic Sen. Mark Warner said on Wednesday that Russian hackers were not favoring one political party over another.

WATCH:

Warner praised the leadership of Republican Congressman Richard Burr, the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, during a Wednesday hearing on foreign influence campaigns on social media.

Warner also addressed the goals of Russian election meddling, asserting that they were not trying to promote one political party more than the other: “He has been a great ally, has moved this committee forward on a whole host of technology issues. This is one where there is no Democratic or Republican answer.”

“Clearly the goal of our adversaries was not to favor one party over the other,” Warner continued. “It was to wreak havoc and split divisions and I think the committee under your leadership is trying to take this issue on.”
