Spanish police have arrested two people in the northeastern city of Mataro on suspicion that they were forming a terror group dedicated to recruiting and radicalizing people willing to join terrorist organizations in the Middle East.

Armed officers of the Civil Guard in Spain raided the homes of both detainees, a statement by the Spanish Interior Ministry released Wednesday said, as part of a heightened investigation that began in 2015 to detect individuals using social media and the internet to recruit terrorists.

“The operation has led to the arrest of two individuals, M.B. 46 years old, born in Tetuán (Morocco) and O.K. 36 years old, from Tangier (Morocco), both suspected of forming part of a structure dedicated to recruiting individuals willing to move to areas of conflict,” the statement said, according to local outlets.

The Civil Guard found posts online by the two men claiming their goal was to “kill all the Jews” and recruit new members for the Islamic State (ISIS), specifically. (RELATED: Report: Toronto Shooter Showed ‘Support’ For Pro-ISIS Website)

The raid was ordered by Spain’s National Court, and it began at 6 a.m. local time when riot police units entered the homes with explosives and K-9 units.

Although ISIS has claimed responsibility for a string of recent attacks across the world, the Spanish Ministry of the Interior says ISIS’s loss of territory, both material and human, in Syria and Iraq has caused an increase in activity on the internet and social media platforms to recruit and re-grow the organization.
