Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera sided with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, on “Fox & Friends” Friday, after Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego of Arizona threatened their safety on Twitter.

Gallego tweeted Thursday, threatening ICE agents who take part in deportations. He said they wouldn’t be safe because they “were just following orders.” He also called President Donald Trump’s immigration polices “illegal acts.” (RELATED: Philadelphia Mayor Ends ICE Contract Despite Risk To Public Safety)

“What he’s saying to law enforcement and ICE particularly is, ‘I was just following orders is no excuse.’ We know that, which I am absolutely appalled by what this congressman said,” Rivera said on “Fox & Friends.” “There are still almost 500 little children separated from their parents. This issue is so grinding on these immigrant communities and others in the Latino community. It is such a raw issue that I understand Gallego’s frustration.”

“But for Gallego to say that these officers, however unpopular the job that they are ordered to do, legally ordered to do — to say that they are now at risk for following an order that is a legal order, you may politically disagree with it, you may be frustrated by the family separations, the whole system may be a mess, but for him to say to the cops that you are vulnerable in this way, I just think that, where have we gone?” Rivera continued.

Rivera said it’s a slippery slope to tell law enforcement they will face consequences for carrying out lawful orders from the president and reiterated his support for the immigration agents.

“Now we’re telling cops that if you enforce the law you’re going to be in trouble sometime down the road when the worm turns? I just think that that is a reckless and irresponsible statement,” he concluded. “I back the ICE officers. I detest roundup and removal of average working undocumented immigrants. I think it’s absolutely unnecessary … but you don’t threaten the cops. You don’t threaten the thin blue line. That what separates civilization from anarchy.”
