Tesla CEO Elon Musk smoked weed with comedian Joe Rogan late Thursday night while attempting to explain why he sometimes gets caught in Twitter battles with his critics.

Musk discussed everything from his social media behavior to concerns about artificial intelligence on “The Joe Rogan Experience,” a popular podcast that live-streams on YouTube. The Tech billionaire did all of this while sharing a joint with Rogan.

“You probably can’t because of stockholders, right?” Rogan asked while lighting up a cigarette he said was mixed with marijuana. “I mean, it’s legal right?” Musk said before accepting the cigarette. “Totally legal,” Rogan replied. The interview took place in Los Angeles where weed is legal.

Musk then attempted to clarify his Twitter behavior, which some believe is distracting him from managing production on Tesla’s Model 3 vehicle. Musk said he tries to ignore most negative comments “but every now and again, you get drawn in. It’s not good. You can make mistakes.”

Analysts and journalists excoriated Musk in August after he announced on Twitter his willingness to take Tesla private at $420 per share. Regulators also subpoenaed Tesla shortly after the announcement to determine how much the company’s board knew about Musk’s plan.

Musk implored people to be nicer to each other toward the end of the podcast. “Don’t assume they’re mean until you actually know they are mean,” Musk said. “It’s easy to demonize people—you’re usually wrong about it. People are nicer than you think.” (RELATED: ‘F*cking A**hole’: Musk Calls Out Journos For Supposedly Defending ‘Child Rapists’)

The advice comes shortly after he got into trouble for calling Vernon Unsworth, a British caver who lives in Thailand, a “pedo” on social media in July after the two got into a tit-for-tat about the nature of the cave rescue. Unsworth is suing Musk for libel.

His tweet came shortly after Unsworth suggested in a CNN interview that the Tesla CEO should “stick his submarine where it hurts.” Musk is claiming reporters are defending “child rapists” for supposedly going after him instead of fleshing out whether Unsworth is a pedophile.
