Republican Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska called President Donald Trump’s tenure at the White House “a reality show soap opera presidency” on NBC’s “Meet The Press” Sunday.

Host Chuck Todd asked if Trump should “publicly stabilize his staffing situation in the White House” and Sasse went after the president. (RELATED: NYT’s David Sanger Says White House Op-Ed Source Didn’t Pose National Security Risk Because They Didn’t Link To Classified Information)

“You know, I don’t have any desire to beat the president up, but it’s pretty clear that this White House is a reality show, soap opera presidency,” Sasse said.

“I mean, the drama is, the drama of Omarosa and the drama of Cohen and the drama of Manafort and the drama of the Woodward quotes and the drama of these op-eds.”

Sasse said he would rather see Trump focus on the future of America, rather than short-term staffing concerns.

“What you’d like is the president to not worry so much about the short-term of staffing but the long-term of vision casting for America,” Sasse declared. “Pull us together as a people. Help us deliberate about where we should go and then build a team of great big cause, low ego people around you.”

“Right now it feels like there’s way too much drama every day and that distracts us from the longer term stuff we should be focused on together,” he concluded.
