First lady Melania Trump gave a one-on-one interview to ABC’s “Good Morning America” while she was traveling solo for the first time in Africa. The interview aired on Wednesday morning.

In addition to responding to the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, Mrs. Trump weighed in on her own role as first lady.

When asked what had surprised her most about being America’s first lady, Trump was candid. “It’s sad to see that organizations and foundations I want to partner with choose not to because of the administration,” she said. “And I feel they are choosing the politics over helping others.”

Trump was unwilling to name any of those organizations specifically, saying, “I would not talk about it. They know who they are. I don’t want to put them out in front of the world, but they know who they are.”

Supporting her “Be Best” campaign, Trump’s trip — though it has included visits with local leaders — has focused on women and children abroad.
