CNN political analyst David Gregory compared President Donald Trump to convicted felon O.J. Simpson on “New Day” Tuesday over the president offering an alternate theory on the fate of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Khashoggi was a dissident journalist and contributor for The Washington Post. He went missing on Oct. 2, and as rumors swirled Monday, Trump told reporters Khashoggi’s disappearance might be a result of “rogue killers.”
Trump reached out to King Salman of Saudi Arabia about the incident and then sent Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to meet with him to find answers.

Saudi Arabia is now reportedly preparing to issue a statement claiming Khashoggi died as a result of a botched interrogation. (RELATED: CNN’s David Gregory Is Convinced Michael Bloomberg Is Running For President)

“[Trump] is such a loose talker,” Gregory said. “He just says what pops into his mind, not thinking that as the president of the United States you don’t want to replay this notion that there were rogue killers like he’s, you know, O.J. Simpson talking about tracking down the real killers in that murder trial.”
Gregory also said Trump should have been more forceful in his rhetoric toward Saudi Arabia, especially given his current relationship with the American press.
“I mean, it’s just absurd,” he continued. “The problem is that people are listening to the president around the world. And I think for a president who has said, disingenuously in my judgment, when he talks about the journalist being the enemy of the people, this is actually a time when an American leader has to stand up and say, ‘This was a journalist working for The Washington Post in America, with a green card. This will not stand.'”
