Kareem Hunt has checked into counseling for anger management and alcohol issues.

The electric running back was cut a couple weeks ago by the Chiefs after a video was released by TMZ from a February incident in Cleveland. In the security camera video, Hunt appears to shove and kick a woman on the ground. (RELATED: Will A Team Sign NFL Player Cut After Alleged Violence Against A Woman? Here’s What Executives Are Saying)

Now, he’s apparently taking steps to get his life back together. NFL.com reported the following Sunday:

According to sources with knowledge of his situation, Hunt entered into counseling this week for alcohol and anger management. While it’s a long process and there is no resolution expected any time soon, it does show he acknowledges the seriousness of his situation. Hunt knows his every move will be scrutinized.

Hunt is being investigated by the NFL for three separate incidents — the February altercation captured on video, one from June where he was accused of punching a man and an apparent skirmish at a nightclub in January. Sources say the Chiefs knew those three incidents occurred, but did not know specific details of each.

Hunt’s odds of playing in the NFL next season aren’t high at the moment, and he’s going to need to take steps like this one in order to get a team to take a chance on him.

It’s just way too risky of a situation for a general manager to sign Hunt, especially considering the fact he’s on the commissioner’s exempt list, which means he can’t play right away if he is signed. It’s all risk and very little reward.

In my opinion, Hunt is likely not going to get signed at any point this year, and there is a very real chance he could miss all of next season as well.

In order to get another shot, he’s going to have to show that he is truly remorseful. Getting help for anger management and alcohol is a great step in the correct direction, but it’s far from being enough.

He’s going to need to seriously rehab his image. That won’ be easy, but America is a nation of second chances. My best advice to him would be to just fly under the radar and get as much help as he can. If there’s another incident at this point, then it’s all over for him. His career will be as dead as disco.
