White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders strongly denounced a federal judge’s decision to overrule President Donald Trump’s immigration reforms Wednesday night, calling it “the latest example of judicial activism.”

“Today, a court has, once again, overridden and undermined United States immigration law,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement, according to The Hill.

Two federal judges issued legal decisions Wednesday that undermines Trump’s evolving immigration policy.

U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan sided with a group of deported refugees who, with the assistance of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), had sued the Trump administration for being deported. (RELATED: Judge Upends Trump Immigration Reforms, Orders Deportees Back)

As Fox News reported, Sullivan first said that the administration was breaching federal law by rejecting many “credible fear claims” that made it more difficult for asylum seekers to claim refugee status on the basis of their perceived fear of returning home. Then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions introduced the immigration reforms last summer.

Sullivan then told the Trump administration that it had to take the deportees back into the United States.

Following that decision, according to The Hill, U.S. District Court Judge Jon Tigar reinforced earlier court decisions that overruled the Trump administration’s desire to reject some asylum cases without a complete assessment. (RELATED: Trump To Appeal 9th Circuit Court’s Ruling On Refugee Policy)

“Today’s ruling is only the latest example of judicial activism that encourages migrants to take dangerous risks; empowers criminal organizations that spread turmoil in our hemisphere; and undermines the laws, borders, Constitution, and sovereignty of the United States,” the Sanders statement continued. “We will continue to fight for the rule of law and against these reckless rulings.”
