Jerry Jones bought the Dallas Cowboys on Feb. 25, 1989, for what would be considered pennies today.

Jones bought the organization from the previous owner, Bum Bright, for $140 million 30 years ago Monday. Today, the organization is reportedly worth more than $4 billion, according to ESPN. (RELATED: Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Buys A Yacht The Size Of A Football Field)

I’d say Jones got a pretty incredible return on his investment. While Jones’ ability to manage a roster and hire coaches is questionable at best, his pristine business acumen is not to be denied. (RELATED: Read The Scathing Letter A 7-Year-Old Cowboys Fan Sent To Jerry Jones)

Jones has amassed a net worth of nearly seven billion dollars, largely due to his decision to buy the Cowboys. He’s also enjoyed quite a bit of success on the field, despite his less than sterling reputation in football circles.

Since Jones bought the team, Dallas has won three Super Bowls, although they have not been to a conference championship game since 1995.

While many Cowboys fans aren’t happy with Jones’ personnel decisions, they have to appreciate what he’s done to elevate the franchise since he bought the team.

Happy anniversary, Jerry!
