Former 11-day White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci has a piece of advice that is likely to upset President Trump‘s internal applecart. He thinks Trump ought to tone it down.
“The President won last time with a lot of bellicosity. But I think the bellicosity now is wearing thin,” the Mooch told MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt over the weekend.
Will Trump’s personality hurt him in 2020?
“I’ve said consistently to the president and others if he tones it down a little on Twitter, his ratings go up,” Scaramucci said. “. . . . We’re all entitled to our opinion. . . . If he wants to win this time, I think it’s a different path.”
Mooch insists Trump will be exonerated in the impending Robert Mueller report. After it’s out, he says, Trump needs to focus on 2020.
Scaramucci, who said he was in Dubai three weeks ago and met a woman who can’t get into the U.S. to see her husband, says he has never said anything positive about the Muslim ban.
“I’m not a fan of it,” he said. “I don’t think it’s good for the country. As Thomas Jefferson once said about fear, uh, security and freedom, you’ve gotta be very very careful in your tone of words. I think we’re overboard on that.” (RELATED: Mooch Has A Radical Feel Good Approach To Omarosa)
Amid all these kernels of wisdom, the Mooch made sure to get in a big fat compliment for The Donald. “He’s a great communicator,” he said, noting that he believes some people on MSNBC won’t enjoy him saying that. (RELATED: Scaramucci Says Trump Is Not A Racist)
As for what Trump said about that white supremacist march Charlottesville, an event that left a woman dead, Mooch said, “I hear ya, I’m not a big fan of that.” He said he would have preferred Trump to say that there “bad people” on both sides instead of there are “very fine” people on both sides.
Asked if he’d work on Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign he said, “I’d consider it.”
This is a pretty shocking non-committal response for someone who missed the birth of his son because he was on the presidential campaign trail with Trump. Granted, at the time, he was on the outs with his wife, Deirdre. The couple is thankfully back in bliss and doing a “power couple” podcast called “Mooch and the Mrs.”
Trump may want to cover his ears and eyes on this last one.
