Democrats are now demanding to see all documentation relating to President Donald Trump’s plan to have undocumented migrants at the border shipped to sanctuary cities.

This comes after Trump announced Friday that he was “giving very strong consideration” to a plan that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had said was “very illegal” and therefore dead in the water.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings and House Homeland Security Chairman Bennie Thompson reportedly sent a letter to the White House and the DHS this morning, which stated:

We are deeply troubled by multiple reports, recently confirmed by the President, that the Trump Administration is considering releasing detained immigrants into congressional districts represented by Democrats in a bizarre and unlawful attempt to score political points.

In response to this letter, President Trump tweeted, “Those Illegal Immigrants who can no longer be legally held (Congress must fix the laws and loopholes) will be, subject to Homeland Security, given to Sanctuary Cities and States!”

Democrats believe this plan is a retaliatory political attack because Trump has been unable to get his immigration agenda passed in Congress, even when it was controlled by Republicans.

The sanctuary cities Trump is referring to—like New York, Chicago and San Francisco—generally fall under Democratic leadership, but not all of them. San Diego city council voted to support a sanctuary city status, despite opposition from Republican Mayor Kevin Faulconer. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi then appeared Sunday on CBS’ “60 Minutes,” in which she slammed Trump, saying, “There’s nobody in the country who knows better that he should not be president of the United States than Donald Trump.”

Trump tweeted in response, “Such a ‘puff piece’ on Nancy Pelosi by @60Minutes, yet her leadership has passed no meaningful Legislation.”
