Case Keenum appears to have the very early edge in the quarterback battle for the Washington Redskins.

According to the Washington Post, Keenum took the first reps during seven-on-seven and team drills Monday. First round pick Dwayne Haskins went second.

Head coach Jay Gruden told the media about the situation, “it’s just a long process, and I think they both handled it well today. Hopefully they’ll do better tomorrow and the next day and so on and so forth. I’m sure it’ll be a good lengthy competition with great players going at it.” (RELATED: Washington Redskins Will Let Dwayne Haskins Compete For The Starting Job)

You can prepare for fans to riot in the streets if the Redskins actually make the decision to ride with Keenum over Haskins, especially if things go south fast.

I’m not saying it’s a bad call. Better to safe Haskins until he’s ready unless you absolutely have to play him, but fans won’t like it.

I think we can all agree some football fans aren’t the most rational people on the planet. Washington took Haskins with the 15th pick in the 2019 draft, and people will expect him to play from the jump.

Do I think Haskins will have a very successful pro career? Yes, I do. I think he’s got all the necessary tools to air it out in the NFL and win games.

Let’s not forget the man terrorized college defenses in his single year as a starter at Ohio State. He was a dominating force on the field.

I don’t expect Haskins to start week one, but I absolutely expect him to take the role from Keenum at some point in the season.

They might not play him immediately, but he wasn’t drafted to sit on the bench forever. He’s the man of the future for the Redskins, and he’ll play sooner rather than later most likely.
