Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford sounds like he’s really enjoying the new offense he’s learning.
The Lions hired Darrell Bevell as the team’s new offensive coordinator, and it sounds like his changes are already being embraced with open arms.
Stafford told the media the following Tuesday, according to The Detroit News.
I think I’m as far along as I should be. There’s obviously a ton more to learn. Verbiage-wise, it’s completely different. … To be honest, having a new playbook is kind of helping. I’m sitting there going, ‘Man, it’s not old hat.’ It’s a bunch of new stuff. I think guys are doing a great job diving in and trying to learn.
Don’t let my man get comfortable! Don’t let him do it! You let Stafford get comfortable in an offense, and defenses have no hope in hell of stopping him.
Bevell also coached another quarterback you might have all heard of before named Russell Wilson. The two of them won a Super Bowl together. Ever heard of him before?
Now, Bevell has been tasked with overseeing Stafford’s golden arm.

I can’t wait to see what Bevell does with the offense this season. They’ve actually got some great weapons around Stafford. Kerryon Johnson is an extremely solid running back, we’ve got Marvin Jones, Danny Amendola, Kenny Golladay, Jesse James and the squad drafted rookie tight end T.J. Hockenson in the first round. There’s no excuse for Bevell not to have Stafford just spinning the ball all over the place when the season starts in September.
Pray for the defenses out there if Stafford starts feeling himself in the new offense. He’s going to be dropping air strikes like it’s the opening days of the Iraq War.

Doubt the Lions all you want right now. I don’t really blame you if you do. Last season was a gigantic disappointment. It was a disaster.
Now, Detroit has everything we need to win a lot more games than last year. The time for excuses has passed. It’s time for Stafford to start launching rockets all over the field.
