House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday that she intends to pray for President Donald Trump following a surprise press conference he held demanding Democrats quit investigating him.

Trump cut short a scheduled infrastructure meeting with the Democrats on Wednesday afternoon after Pelosi alleged this morning that Trump is involved in a “cover-up.”

The president said he would not continue negotiating an infrastructure deal until the Democrats stopped their sweeping investigations into his administration and alleged Russian collusion. (RELATED: Trump Blasts Democrats In Surprise Presser, Demands They Stop Investigations)

Pelosi claimed in a press conference that the president may have had a “lack of confidence” in negotiating the deal and suggested he used her comments about a “cover-up” as an excuse to avoid the meeting.

“Maybe it was lack of confidence on his part that he really couldn’t match the greatness of the challenge that we have — wasn’t really respectful of the Congress and the White House working together. He just took a pass,” Pelosi said. “It just makes me wonder why he did that. In any event, I pray for the President of the United States.”

“We went in the spirit of bipartisanship to find common ground with the president. He came into the room, made a statement — I won’t even characterize it,” Pelosi said.

The meeting was the second related to infrastructure after the Democrats and Trump tentatively reached a $2 trillion deal last month. Last night, the president sent a letter to Pelosi and Schumer asking them to ratify the USMCA before passing an infrastructure bill.
