The Detroit Lions got some solid praise from Sports Illustrated.

The Lions have added a bunch of pieces in the offseason as they try to clean up the mess that was the 2018 season. Well, it hasn’t gone unnoticed, and expectations certainly aren’t low. (RELATED: Lions Star Darius Slay Will Attend Training Camp Amid Contract Situation)

SI wrote the following about the Lions and the upcoming season:

Matthew Stafford builds on the maturity and discipline that he started cultivating in 2016. The mega-armed 11th-year pro is not Tom Brady, but he’s a bona fide franchise QB. Cast in a system predicated more on presnap strategy, he excels.

Aside from questions at guard, the Lions are subtly devoid of weakness. Some of their sharpest work last year came against the NFL’s best-coached teams, and this year that translates to success in a lot of close games.

I’m glad expectations are high and people are writing about how we don’t have weaknesses. I want expectations to be high.

All winners and all true champions in life thrive under great pressure. If the Lions want to be great, then we have to learn how to dominate when expectations are all the way up the ceiling.

I’d honestly have it no other way.

Most people still think the Lions are a joke. I don’t blame them. The franchise has been a joke most of my life. It’s a harsh statement to make, but it’s 100% true.

The team constantly disappoints, loses on a regular basis and never accomplishes anything in the postseason. It’s been that way pretty much since birth.

However, the time for losing is officially over. The time for excuses is over. We’ve bulked up the offense, and it’s time to show up and show out.

That’s exactly what I expect to happen, and it’s exactly what I think will happen. Give Matthew Stafford the ball, let him air it out and we’ll be just fine.

The 2019 campaign is going to magnificent, and I can’t wait to get started.
