GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AP) — Officials in Guyana are warning Facebook users that anybody on the site pretending to be president of the South American country is not their friend.

A statement from Bharrat Jagdeo’s office warns users of the social networking site to ignore postings purported to be from the president. It says some apparently were meant to defraud people by offering to lease state property.

The government statement was released late Tuesday and the false Facebook profile has already disappeared.

Another fake Facebook profile for Jagdeo appeared a year ago boasted of 174 supporters before it was taken down.

Jagdeo also previously complained that he was impersonated on hi5, another site. He says he uses no social networking sites.
