The senior Republican on a U.S. House committee investigating Toyota Motor Corp. (TM) said he wants the auto maker’s chief executive, Akio Toyoda, to testify later this month about the company’s response to safety problems.

U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa (R., Calif.) said he wants to arrange a meeting with Toyoda and congressional leaders of both parties to go over issues surrounding Toyota’s recalls of millions of vehicles for sudden acceleration and braking problems. Issa is the ranking member of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which has scheduled a hearing Feb. 24 on Toyota’s safety issues.

The Oversight and Government Reform Committee is one of three congressional panels that have announced plans to hold hearings on the Toyota recalls.
