President Obama visited Ray’s Hell Burger in Arlington, VA last week. Following in Obama’s less-than-healthy footsteps, here are some patriotic dishes for the Fourth of July:

Fruit tart flag

This Food Network recipe features sweet mascarpone cream (mascarpone cheese, confectioners’ sugar, and whipped cream) arranged cleverly with strawberries and blueberries to create an American Flag.

Red, white ‘n’ blue salad

This recipe from Taste of Home takes liberties with the meaning of “salad,” but it still sounds delicious. The stripes come from three layers of gelatin topped with whipped cream, blueberries, and raspberries.

Patriotic ice cream (cup)cakes

Another Taste of Home recipe looks too good to pass up – these red velvet patriotic cupcakes contain blue ice cream and frozen whipped cream icing.

If you’d prefer cake to cupcakes, check out Gabrielle Carpone’s “Red, white, and blue ice cream cake.” It features strawberry sorbet, lemon ice cream, and blueberry sorbet.

Star-spangled dessert

Last, but certainly not least, is the healthiest option. This “star-spangled dessert” from Family Fun features strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream cheese in a star shaped pattern.
