Fiat SpA’s chief executive Friday said he will decide how to complete the merger between the Italian auto maker and its U.S. partner, Chrysler Group LLC, by 2014.
Speaking on a conference call about Fiat’s third-quarter results, Sergio Marchionne said his decision would be based on two things: access to capital markets to fund the combined group’s future activities; and its relationship with VEBA, the trust that funds retiree medical benefits for Chrysler’s union workers, retirees and their spouses.
