One Kansas City Chiefs fan traded her diamond wedding rings for six tickets to a pair of upcoming games.
The woman found an eager trading partner after posting an ad on Craigslist entitled, “Will trade diamond wedding ring for Chiefs vs Broncos Tickets.”
Rusty Jones, 49, responded to the woman’s ad after he and his girlfriend began discussing engagement, the Kansas City Star reports. He’s been a season-ticket holder since 1993 and was intrigued by the potential bargain.
The woman wishes to remain anonymous because she said she caught backlash from strangers over trading the rings for football tickets. She said they are from a previous marriage, and therefore hold no sentimental value.
Jones said he met the woman at a jewelry store where the ring set was appraised at $2,800. In return for the rings, the woman got four tickets to the Dec. 1 game against the Broncos and two tickets to the Nov 24. game against the Chargers, all in Section 123.
The woman is surprising her new husband with the tickets for his 40th birthday and Jones plans on proposing to his girlfriend with a football-themed party.
