Shy Bladder Group Gets Panties In A Twist Over Rob Lowe DirecTV Ad

If you’ve got a shy bladder, Rob Lowe‘s DirecTV commercials, where he’s hilariously standing awkwardly at a urinal unable to take a leak,  probably won’t amuse you. For everyone else, it’s pretty funny.

Unfortunately, the International Paruresis Association — which just sounds nasty, right? — is protesting, according to an AP story Tuesday. The association is dedicated to people “who find it difficult or impossible to urinate in the presence of others, either in their own home or in public facilities. Also, for people who have difficulty under the stress of time pressure, when being observed, when others are close by and might hear them, or when traveling on moving vehicles.”

Wait, people try to urinate in moving vehicles? That’d make anyone terribly nervous.

Possibly my favorite line in the entire description: “Please enjoy your visit to the IPA website.”

Says CEO Steve Soifer: “The ad is in poor taste and ridicules a serious problem.”

He went on to say, “We don’t mind if you have a little fun with it.”

Did someone say fun? In the course of writing this post, the following bits of advice were sent to me:

  • “Get a comment from the IBS crowd. Would be shitty not to.”
  • “Just shake it off.”

And a spanking: “I refuse to take part in this yellow journalism.”

But apparently the topic of fun and urinating is exactly Soifer’s problem, isn’t it? That anyone, namely an actor, is having any fun with weird urinating issues?

In this instance, he explains, Lowe looks like — God forbid — a loser. Because what else do you look like when you’re standing at a urinal in a public bathroom and looking around like a dork while you wait for your dick to start working?

Soifer went on to compare the issue to amputees. Come on, would you hate on them too?

Sigh.
