The LaVita Bella nursing home, located in Dickinson (between Galveston and Houston), was eventually evacuated according to KPRC 2 News.
Galveston County officials have put a priority on rescuing senior citizens. The Galveston Daily News reported that fifteen senior citizens were successfully evacuated Sunday.
“We were airlifting grandmothers and grandfathers,” Dickenson Emergency Management Coordinator David Popoff told The Galveston Daily News.
Extreme flooding has led to a massive search and rescue operation along the Texas coast and up into the city of Houston. Massive rainfall from Harvey has already claimed the lives of at least five people.
