Actress Sandra Bernhard returned on Tuesday as Nancy Bartlett Thomas on the “Roseanne” reboot. Despite the show’s huge ratings win — largely attributed to a relatively positive portrayal of Roseanne Conner as a Trump supporter — Bernhard says she still doesn’t “get it.”

Bernhard sat down with MSNBC’s Ari Melber on Wednesday to discuss the return of the iconic series, and the conversation quickly turned to politics. Bernhard explained that political clashes within a working class family is a common struggle that people relate to, and that was why it was working as a concept.

But then Melber gave Bernhard a four word prompt, “white women for Trump,” and Bernhard’s demeanor visibly changed.

“Can’t understand it. I don’t know where it comes from. I think it’s a couple of issues. I think it’s being either under the thumb of your husband or, for the election, it was being so offended by Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton’s legacy that you turned on her. Or feeling inadequate, feeling like how could somebody be so educated, how could somebody have brought themselves up from their own experience and gone to the top, educated herself, fought for rights — civil rights and equality. And I think that’s threatening to a lot of women.”

Bernhard doubled down when Melber asked her to clarify, saying, “a lot of women have compromised, given in, gotten married, raised their kids and not had the luxury of being able to think for themselves.”

Jedediah Bila, formerly of Fox News and ABC’s “The View,” delivered a brutal assessment of Bernhard’s position.
