Alabama football coach Nick Saban sounded optimistic about star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s ankle injury when discussing it with ESPN.

The Heisman finalist hurt his ankle in the SEC title game against Georgia, which resulted in him being replaced by Jalen Hurts in the big Crimson Tide win. Alabama fans shouldn’t worry too much because it sounds like Tua is going to be just fine. (RELATED: Georgia Loses To Alabama After One Of The Dumbest Play Calls In Football History)

Saban told ESPN the following Monday night about the injured quarterback’s recovery:

He’s doing well. I think he’s probably ahead of schedule. He’s been able to take a lot of reps. He’s been able to throw the ball from the pocket. He can run … I don’t think he’s 100 percent in terms of change of direction yet, but he’s already going 100 percent on the gravity treadmill. So he’s been able to practice and he’s made really, really good progress. So we’re encouraged by that.

You love this news if you’re an Alabama fan. You know who won’t love this news? Oklahoma fans. I’m not sure the Sooners could be the Tide with Jalen Hurts starting anyways, but their task becomes substantially more difficult the moment Tua steps onto the field.

That’s just a fact. Tua is one of the most dynamic quarterbacks we’ve ever seen in college football.

You obviously never want to cheer for anybody to ever get hurt or stay sidelined with an injury, but I’m sure fans of the Sooners would be okay with Tua taking all his sweet time to get better.

Add in the fact Kyler Murray won the Heisman over Tua, and we’re set up for a wild game when these two teams meet December 29 in the college football playoff semi-finals. It should be absolutely epic.
