Singer Kacey Musgraves refused to drink out of a fan’s shoe at her Australian show Saturday after receiving pressure from fans to participate in the Aussie tradition.
The tradition, called a “shoey,” happens when someone drinks an entire beer out of their own shoe, according to a report published by the New York Post. Fans at her concert began chanting “shoey” at the country star.
“News flash, that wouldn’t work for me,” Musgraves responded to the crowd pointing out her open toed shoes. Fans continued to pressure the star into the Australian tradition with members of Musgraves’ band joining in.

Many Musgraves fans took to Twitter after the show to share their support for her not drinking out of a shoe, calling the tradition “tacky.”

I have never heard of this tradition, but personally it sounds scary. I would never wanna chug a beer out of someone’s shoe even my own. What if you or that person had the shoe on for hours before? That’s nasty.
