Comedy Legend, Creator Of ‘Dick Van Dyke Show’ Carl Reiner Dies At 98

The creator of “The Dick Van Dyke Show” and comedy legend Carl Reiner passed away Monday.

Carl died from natural causes, Variety confirmed with his assistant Judy Nagy. He was 98 years old at the time of his death.

The comedian’s son, Rob Reiner, shared the news on his Twitter account Tuesday morning.

“Last night my dad passed away,” Rob wrote. “As I write this my heart is hurting. He was my guiding light.”

Carl was also known for his work in “It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World,” “The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming” and the “Ocean’s” series.

Celebrities and comedians took to social media to share their thoughts on Carl’s death.

“So sad to hear about @carlreiner,” comedian Sarah Silverman wrote. “Not only did he make my favorite TV& movies (see:Where’s Poppa) but his humanity was beyond compare. His heart was so full of love. Never left his house empty handed- book, space pen, Swiss Army knife. RIP to a man that embodies the word mensch.”

“I’m so sorry to hear that Carl Reiner has passed on,” author Stephen King wrote. “He was a great entertainer and a fine man.”

George Clooney called Carl’s comedy “effortless” in a statement to Variety.

“Carl Reiner made every room he walked into funnier, smarter, kinder,” he told the outlet. “It all seemed so effortless. What an incredible gift he gave us all. His was a life well lived and we’re all the better for it. Rest in peace my friend.”
