Simon Cowell has suffered a broken back.
According to Page Six, Cowell suffered a broken back Saturday in a biking accident in Los Angeles, and a metal rod had to be placed into his back during surgery. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)
The music industry legend tweeted late Sunday night that the news was true.
“I have broken part of my back. Thank you to everyone for your kind messages,” Cowell tweeted in part. He also thanked the medical professionals looking out for him.

This is obviously an incredibly scary situation. Anytime you’re dealing with broken bones in the area where your spin is located, you’re dealing with a bad situation.
I don’t even understand how this happened, but a source told Page Six that the electric bike landed on him when he fell off.

I don’t know anything about electric bikes, but they must weigh a lot if they can cause your back to break by landing on you.
Luckily, it sounds like Cowell is ultimately going to be okay, and he was even in high enough spirits to crack a joke at his own expense.
Cowell likely has a very long road to recovery ahead of him, but at least he’s already in great enough shape to be on social media. I think we can all agree that’s a good sign.
