Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham said Wednesday that he would “go to war” to defend Chick-fil-A following outrage from some students and faculty at Notre Dame over plans to open a new Chick-fil-A restaurant on their campus in Indiana.
Over 100 students and faculty at the University of Notre Dame signed an open letter calling on the school to end plans for the fast-food chain to open a new restaurant on campus because of Chick-fil-A’s donations to different Christian organizations, according to Fox News.
“It’s disappointing to hear some ND students and faculty want to ban Chick-fil-A from doing business on campus because they disagree with the values held by the Chick-fil-A founders. What a dangerous precedent to set,” Sen. Graham tweeted in response to the letter.
“I want everyone in South Carolina and across America to know I have Chick fil-A’s back. I hope we don’t have to, but I will go to war for the principles Chick fil-A stands for. Great food. Great service. Great values. God bless Chick fil-A!”

The move to keep Chick-fil-A off-campus gained popularity after two students, Tilly Keeven-Glascock and Joey Jegier, sent a letter titled “Keep Chick-fil-A away” to the editor of The Observer. The letter decries the plan to open a Chick-fil-A on campus and accuses the fast-food chain of donating to “queerphobic groups,” and “groups that oppose LGBTQ+ rights,” including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Paul Anderson Youth Home, and the Salvation Army.
Liberals have long attacked Chick-fil-A over their donations to different Christian organizations. On Monday, New York lawmakers announced a push to ban Chick-fil-A from rest stops. (RELATED: New Jersey University Dean Resigns Over Chick-Fil-A Ban)
