A 33-year-old woman from California, Stephanie Sin, faces charges of child sexually abusive activity and using a computer to commit a crime after allegedly attempting to lure a 15-year-old boy to an Airbnb in Michigan Sunday.
Sin had reportedly been chatting with the 15-year-old boy online, according to Fox2 Detroit.
“They began talking casually and then it advanced to more sexually explicit talk,” said Novi Police Lt. Jason Meier in a video statement. Sin allegedly flew 2,000 miles from California to Royal Oak, Michigan, and sent an Uber to pick up the boy, who became spooked and told his parents, according to the outlet. The police were then called to investigate the matter.
An initial investigation launched by police Sunday revealed that Sin had been in touch with the young boy for more than a year, meaning he was only 14-years-old at the time, according to Fox2 Detroit. Sin had rented the Airbnb for one month, and allegedly planned to spend time with the boy, according to Fox2 Detroit. Officers located Sin at the Airbnb, where she was arrested.
“She was a little surprised, but at the same time, she knew what she was doing,” Meier said in the video statement. (RELATED: Autistic Boy Missing For Three Years Found 700 Miles Away Shivering Outside Gas Station)

Sin was given a $100,000 bond, and has been deemed a flight risk according to the outlet. Sin and the young boy reportedly had never had any physical contact, and police credited the boy for coming forward to share his story.
“This case is a stark reminder of how important it is for parents to be aware of what their children’s online activity is,” Meier said. “I give him all the credit in the world for telling somebody, because he took a predator off the street.”
“We are grateful that this young man reported this incident to his parents because many do not and that puts them in a potentially dangerous situation,” Meier continued, according to Fox2 Detroit. “If anyone else has had a similar incident, we encourage them to tell someone or call their local police.”
