An unknown suspect reportedly shot and killed a 20-year-old woman pushing a baby stroller in Manhattan’s Upper East Side on Wednesday night.
The victim’s identity has not yet been made public, according to Fox News. She was pushing a three-month-old infant in the stroller when the shooter, dressed in all black, opened fire and killed the woman with a single round to the head, according to the same report. New York Police Department (NYPD) officers received a report that someone had been shot across from 164 East 95th St., according to Fox News. The suspect approached the victim from behind at Lexington Avenue and East 95th Street, the NYPD and other sources told the New York Post. The suspect fled the scene on foot, according to the same report.

The shooting happened on a block of the Upper East Side, which is home to both billionaires and people living in poverty, according to Fox News.
The murder “shows just how this national problem is impacting families and doesn’t matter if you are on the Upper East Side or East New York, Brooklyn,” Democratic Mayor of New York City Eric Adams said at a press conference near the crime scene. “The over saturation of guns and dangerous people that repeatedly leave our criminal justice system to continue actions like this” makes the scourge of gun violence especially difficult to combat in New York, Adams continued. “We’re going to find this person that is guilty of this horrific crime. We’re going to find him and bring him to justice.”
Adams campaigned heavily on reducing gun violence and cleaning up New York’s streets, according to City Journal. Violence, property crimes, and homelessness continue to plague the city, nonetheless.
