Netflix released the official teaser trailer for “All Quiet on the Western Front” at the start of September, and it’s one of the most haunting things I’ve ever seen.
Based on Erich Maria Remarque‘s bestselling 1928 novel “All Quiet on the Western Front,” it follows a young German soldier, Paul, and his comrades on their voyage to the Western Front of World War I, according to the description in the video. Remarque based much of his story on his own experiences during WWI, according to The Hollywood Reporter, showing the world the euphoria and terror of war as it had never been heard before.

Adolf Hitler banned the book in Germany, calling it “treasonous” for its depiction of war as unheroic, THR continued. While many versions of the book have been turned into entertainment projects, this is the first time the story will be told in its native German.
Despite looking like one of the greatest war films ever made, the story is decidedly anti-war. The teaser opens with what looks like the first, funny, jovial moments of Paul joining his comrades, only to descend into the vicious, blood-thirsty violence of war and the physical and psychological toll this type of brutality takes upon those it touches. The film was directed by Edward Berger, and stars newcomer Fleix Kammerer as Paul, THR reported in another article. It will be available to stream on October 28th. You can watch the trailer here:
