Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s spokesperson Drew Hammill denied a report alleging Pelosi will be stepping down in the near future.
Journalist Tara Palmeri from liberal investigative journalism startup Puck News claimed in her report Tuesday that a “very good source” told her Pelosi is prepared to move on from her position among Democratic leadership. Hammill responded to an inquiry by Palmeri by telling her “nothing in this reporting is correct” and “she’s not even thinking about her future at this moment,” according to the article.

Democrats are closely following Pelosi’s next move as the party braces for the GOP to take control of the House. Republicans are expected to hold a narrow majority once all the votes are counted in California.
Pelosi stated Sunday that Democrats have asked her to consider running to lead the party again, CNN reported. After her husband was assaulted in their home in late October, Pelosi indicated the incident would factor into her decision about her next move. Later in the report, Palmeri purported New York Democratic Rep. Hakeem Jeffries is next in line to be Democratic House Leader, citing the “very good source.” Jeffries currently serves as Chair of the House Democratic Caucus and has reportedly been building support behind the scenes to be Pelosi’s replacement.
