After killing a pack of coyotes while defending his owner’s flock of sheep in Decatur, Georgia, Casper, a 20-month-old Great Pyrenees, is recovering.
Casper’s fight against the pack of coyotes lasted over half an hour, his owner, John Wierwiller, told Fox 5. “He was kinda looking at me like, ‘Boss, stop looking at how bad I look, just take care of me,’” Wierwiller told Fox 5.
“It looked like a coyote grabbed his skin and peeled it right off,” he added.
LifeLine Animal Project launched a GoFundMe campaign to pay for Casper’s $15,000 hospital bill, according to Fox 5. The nonprofit’s mission is to end euthanasia of healthy animals in Atlanta by raising funds.
Dr. Brosman, Casper’s veterinarian, said his recovery is a “miracle.” She also called him a “hero,” and had never seen injuries as severe as his.
