After a successful season as the defensive coordinator of the Marshall Thundering Herd, Lance Guidry and the Miami Hurricanes are finalizing a deal for the former to bring his services to South Florida in the same position, according to 247Sports.
Guidry was actually hired as the defensive coordinator for Tulane on Jan. 17, but after only a few weeks on the job, he’s now leaving for Miami. Guidry led the Marshall defense to a top-five ranking in 2022. He comes in to replace Kevin Steele, who left the Hurricanes to take the defensive coordinator position for Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide.
Guidry made Marshall a defensive force in the 2022 season, finishing in at least the top 20 nationally in 15 different categories, and finishing in the top 10 in 11 categories. Some of the notable rankings for the Thundering Herd defense were: No. 1 in third-down defense, No. 2 in stop rate, No. 6 in scoring and No. 8 in total defense.

Guidry certainly has a challenge ahead of him, with Miami being more than disappointing in 2022.
In scoring defense, the Hurricanes ended the season with a No. 67 ranking, allowing 26.8 points-per-game, with five of their games allowing over 40. The team was also dismal when it came to stopping big plays, coming in at a horrible No. 126 ranking in plays that allowed at least 60 yards.
