Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s PAC may have spent more than $40,000 on bulk orders of his new book, apparently in an effort to send it soaring up the bestseller charts, Forbes reported.

Champion American Values PAC, a committee chaired by Pompeo, spent $42,000 on a bulk order of books on Jan. 24, the same day Pompeo’s new book “Never Give An Inch” was released, according to FEC filings first reported by Forbes. The book debuted at the number three spot on The New York Times best-seller list, which indicated that retailers reported bulk purchases of the book.

The title now sits at number five on the list, with a “dagger” indication attached to it, which means “some retailers report receiving bulk orders,” according to the NYT.

Champion American Values made the purchase from bulkbooks.com, according to Forbes, which offers Pompeo’s book at a 35% discount for orders of 500 or more copies. (RELATED: Mike Pompeo Says Biden ‘Made An Enormous Mistake’ With Chinese Balloon Response, Brought ‘Global Shame’)

It is unclear what compensation Pompeo may or may not receive from his book purchases, although authors will often earn royalties or be able to pay off an advance with strong early sales. Pompeo also touted a New York Times endorsement of the book in a Facebook ad, according to Forbes, despite the publication not having reviewed it. It is unclear if that was meant to refer to its presence on the bestseller list.

Champion American Values did not respond to questions from the Daily Caller on whether or not the bulk purchase was, indeed, for Pompeo’s book.
